Reporting a death

Before you start

Please avoid using the browser back button to avoid losing your data.

You can use this service to help you tell government and the local councils about the death and you won’t have to send a copy of the death certificate in the post.

This service is not a claim for benefit, but it can help you give the information to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). If you want the information can be passed onto a number of other government departments and local council services.

You may have already read a leaflet from your local council about this service. If not please ask for one or you can learn more about this service on the Directgov website.
